BIOTRAILS at the 5th European Conference of the Ecosystem Services Partnership
The 5th European Conference of the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) was held from November 18 to 22, 2024, in Wageningen, the Netherlands, under the theme Ecosystem Services: One Planet, One Health.
This event emphasised the interconnectedness of human, animal, plant, and ecosystem health with the global environment, aligning with major international commitments such as the Global Biodiversity Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Within that context and as part of the BIOTRAILS team, we showcased BIOTRAILS results through two engaging presentations from Evangelia Drakou and Charis Chalkiadakis from Harokopio University of Athens (HUA), introducing attendees to our mission: inspiring and accelerating biodiversity-relevant transformative change in society.
- Evangelia Drakou delivered a talk on “Transforming Telecoupled Supply Chains Through Integrated Modelling and Participatory Approaches,” presenting results from the modelling component across all BIOTRAILS case studies.
- Charis Chalkiadakis shared insights on “Large-scale Fisheries of West Africa: A Regional Assessment of Benefit Flows Using a Spatiotemporal Approach,” focusing on methodologies within the fisheries supply chain.
During the event, we participated in thought-provoking discussions highlighting the critical need for transformative change and the role of innovative knowledge in enhancing synergies between climate, biodiversity, and society. The project’s objectives, especially its focus on identifying leverage points for positive change and biodiversity conservation, gathered significant interest from the research community, especially those working on the transformative change aspect of telecoupled systems.
