Deliverable 5.1 lays the foundation for Work Package (WP) 5 activities, focusing on ‘BIOTRAILS Pathways and Leverage Points’. WP5 aims to synchronise the project’s implementation phases across four value chains (Cocoa produced in Peru and distributed globally; Fishery and aquaculture products supplied by the Mediterranean basin and consumed within the Mediterranean countries; Gold mined in Ghana and distributed globally; and Forest-based cultural products created by indigenous communities in the Brazilian Amazon), driving transformative changes relevant to biodiversity. This deliverable sets the initial conditions for our case studies based on extensive literature and the invaluable insights of our case study leaders. It describes the co-implementation and co-evaluation plans, emphasising the stages necessary to achieve transformative change in the value chains.

The co-implementation plan, a key component of this deliverable, outlines a roadmap for the project’s activities and solutions, engaging stakeholders and case study leaders to ensure sustainable, transformative impacts. The co-evaluation plan, based on an Action Plan that ensures the implementation of practical solutions beyond the project’s duration, forms part of BIOTRAILS’s legacy in the case studies. The plan has two levels: monitoring and evaluating the project’s implementation and the BIOTRAILS solutions. Continuous feedback and effective communication will be facilitated to ensure the project meets the needs of case studies and stakeholders. Furthermore, stakeholders will be engaged in developing indicators to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the solutions, ensuring adaptive management and continuous improvement.
