BIOTRAILS WP3 Team Meets in Athens to Advance Scenario Development and Data Integration
On 24–25 June 2025, the BIOTRAILS Work Package 3 partners convened for a hands-on meeting at the Geography Department of Harokopio University of Athens (HUA), Greece. The aim was to accelerate progress of integrating other project’s results into the Participatory Systems Dynamics Modelling (PSDM) and prepare for the third and final round of participatory workshops across BIOTRAILS case studies.
Hosted by HUA, the two-day meeting gathered representatives from CNR, DRAXIS, eBOS, ETH, and ADEL. Discussions centred around the integration and harmonisation of WP3 datasets, scenario development, and the refinement of model components using insights from previous stakeholder engagements.
Highlights included:
- Showcasing Ghana’s case study as a basis for PSDM integration;
- Advancing scenario-building methodologies linked to intervention types (policy, ESG, behavioural, and market);
- Coordinating with WP2 and WP4 teams to align leverage points;
- Reviewing the structure and functionality of the BIOTRAILS data repository and upcoming visualisation tool.
A dedicated session focused on refining the narrative that underpins the scenarios and mapping the relationships between system variables, external pressures (e.g., climate), and stakeholder decisions in line with the IPBES approach. This will directly inform how future interventions are assessed and communicated to policy, civil society, and market actors.
As the BIOTRAILS team approaches the third stakeholder workshops and the final months of the project, the Athens meeting played a crucial role in strengthening cross-WP collaboration, setting a clear path for integrated, actionable outputs that support transformative change for biodiversity.
