We are pleased to share our experience from the recent webinar, “Transformative Change for Nature – Engaging with European Nature Conservation Agencies,” which took place on 21 February 2024 and was hosted by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN). This event provided an invaluable platform for discussions on fostering transformative change in nature conservation, with insights from leading experts and conservation agencies across Europe.
Key Takeaways from the Webinar
The webinar featured contributions from esteemed representatives of IPBES, ENCA, and BfN, each bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. Prof. Karen O’Brien, Co-Chair of the recently published IPBES Transformative Change Assessment, delivered an enlightening keynote address. She outlined the potentials, barriers, and strategies necessary to achieve transformative change for nature, emphasising the need to tackle the root causes of biodiversity loss. The assessment envisions a future where humanity coexists harmoniously with nature, aiming for a healthy, biodiverse planet by 2050.
Further contributions from Nick Bialynicki-Birula (ENCA) and Thomas Graner (BfN Vice President) reinforced the commitment of European Nature Conservation Agencies to supporting this agenda.
