International Biodiversity Day 2025: Linking Global Goals to Local Change

With just five years remaining to meet the 2030 targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, urgent action is needed to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.
The EU-funded BIOTRAILS project is rising to this challenge by linking global value chains with real-world change. On Biodiversity Day 2025, BIOTRAILS showcases how it is helping translate international commitments into sustainable practices across four key regions:
BIOTRAILS addresses the complex Biodiversity–Climate–Society Nexus through a systems-based approach. Using Participatory System Dynamics Modelling, the project brings together stakeholders, from communities to policymakers, to co-create pathways for transformative change. The approach makes it easier to see where change can happen, whether through consumption patterns, trade policies, or local practices.
BIOTRAILS is not only mapping challenges but also helping shape solutions. As 2030 approaches, its work demonstrates that collaboration and shared understanding are crucial to making sustainability a reality across borders and sectors.
